Rule of Thirds and Redundancy

The rule of 'thirds' is a must in solo diving.  Simply put one third in, one third out, and a third in reserve.  Formulated if your start pressure is 300 bar, 200 bar is where you start making your way back, and you should be back and hitting the surface with at least 100 bar.  The idea being, that on turn around point, you have twice as much gas as you need.  Don't forget: Breathing rates can double in stressful situations.

Solo diving can be the most enjoyable form of diving as, you don't have to worry about where you buddy is, or miss time to look at something because they are off in another direction.  But you must be confident you can plan and cover for any situation.
